Rumours of Gabriela Hearst's departure have been circulating for several weeks. The news has just been confirmed by Chloé. In a press release, the Parisian label owned by Swiss luxury group Richemont announced that the Uruguayan designer, who has been based in New York since 2000, "will be stepping down after three years as creative director of the house." No successor has yet been announced.

The designer, who has accompanied Chloé's 360-degree shift towards sustainable fashion, will present her latest collection for Spring/Summer 2024 at a show in Paris on September 28, before returning to New York to focus on her own brand, which bears her name.

"As creative director, Gabriela brought exceptional energy and a dynamic creative vision, contributing to a period of decisive progress for the company and writing a remarkable new chapter in the history of our house. I would like to thank her warmly for having invested so much in this mission - not least for her passion, drive and values, but also for her unwavering commitment and support in sustaining the significant progress of the house to shape a more responsible future, true to the legacy of our founder," commented Chloé CEO Riccardo Bellini, who had recruited her in December 2020.

Since her appointment, the label points out, "Gabriela Hearst has played a key role in transforming Chloé into a socially and environmentally committed company. With Gabriela's creative vision, the house, which has undergone a period of sustained growth, has been able to perpetuate and develop the legacy of its founder Gaby Aghion by highlighting the positive and decisive role of women.

A number of names are already being bandied about as potential successors. One of these is Julien Dossena, who has been creative director of Paco Rabanne, recently renamed Rabanne, for ten years.
